The latest episode of Shellcast, the podcast that’s a beach break for your ears, visits Manatee Park in Fort Myers.
Episode 9, entitled “When I Get Older, I Want To Be a Manatee,” includes an interview with Laura Carr, Lee County Parks & Recreation specialist. Carr talks about what visitors can experience at the 17-acre county park, which serves as a warm-water refuge to these super-sized vegetarians.
When the water temperature in the Gulf of Mexico drops, manatees make their way to the park’s canal via Pine Island Sound, the Caloosahatchee River and the Orange River. Carr also discusses how the park was established and what people can do to keep manatees safe.
Manatee Park is located at 10901 Palm Beach Boulevard in Fort Myers.
