Southwest Florida has countless unique locales that belong on your bucket list, with histories that are just as unique.

For instance, many of our guests delight in taking a lunch cruise up to Cabbage Key, just north of Captiva.  Did you know that the island formed around 10,000 B.C.?  According to geologists, it is considered an “ice age sand dune” because it has stayed at least partially above sea level since the most recent ice age.

Of course, according to modern lore, Cabbage Key is famous for being the inspiration behind Jimmy Buffet’s “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” but we digress.

More fascinating information on the history of Cabbage Key can be found here.  And to explore the island for yourself, book a Cabbage Key excursion during your next visit to Ocean’s Reach!  For more information, contact Captiva Cruises at 239-472-5300.
