Flamingo Frenzy

flamingo-frenzy

There have been several flocks of flamingos landing in people’s yards around Sanibel and Captiva!

Thanks to our friends at The Children’s Education Center of the Islands (CECI) who came up with the idea for this colorful fundraiser, people are “flocking” friends all over the islands.

While these beautiful pink flamingos may seem harmless, they are actually very territorial. So much so, in fact,  » Read more

Fly Like an Eagle

Seeing majesty soaring over our beach

recalls Steve Miller’s refrain from his top Billboard hit “Fly Like an Eagle”:

I want to fly like an eagle, to the sea
Fly like an eagle
Let my spirit carry me
I want to fly (oh, yeah)

Thank you, Andy, for sharing another special reason to visit Sanibel!  » Read more

Remodeling the Nest

2016-osprey-nest

We’ve noticed some aerial activity swirling and swooping around our osprey platform. Could it be? Is this the start of a new osprey family at Ocean’s Reach?

We are now on “daily watch” mode for the return of our Sanibel osprey couple. And these pictures indicate that a new nest may be occupied soon! The male osprey typically initiates the building or remodeling of the nest prior to his courtship of the female.  » Read more

The Tide

The tide recedes, but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle warmth
still lingers on the land.
The music stops, yet echoes on
in sweet, soulful refrains.
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains.

Roll out the Red Carpet

doc-fords-grand-opening

Everybody loves a party!

Case in point, the turnout for the recent grand opening of Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille’s new location was deemed a stand-up success! Plates overflowed with tasty Caribbean morsels, friends reacquainted over savory libations and not an empty seat was to be found.

The newly built restaurant and bar — across the street from Bailey’s at the intersection of Tarpon Bay Road and Island Inn Road —  » Read more
