Private Refuge Tour with Renowned Bird Authors

Nationally acclaimed bird authors, TV personalities, and longtime Sanibel Island winter residents Don and Lillian Stokes will again contribute their time and expertise to lead two fundraising birders tram tours at the J.N. “Ding” Darling Refuge on the morning of February 10, 2017.

Sister Mermaids Return!

Our beach is a mermaid magnet! We’ve had three sightings this
year alone. Yet sister mermaids are a rarity.

These beautiful mermaids, Lyndsey and Sydney, are back for a summer visit

Volunteers representing the Mono-filament Busters conservation group recently oversaw the installation of five new mono-filament fishing line recycling stations, expanding the scope of the islands’ three-year-old “Clear Your Gear” campaign.

Clear Your Gear, a collaborative effort among Sanibel and Captiva conservation organizations, aims to reduce the amount of mono-filament line and fishing gear left in our environment, which is very often detrimental to wildlife.

It isn’t exactly a uniform, but the bright blue shirts and hats with yellow lettering identify the newest category of volunteers for the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum: Shell Ambassadors.
