Girls Only!

The Sanibel Sea School will host a female-led, girls-only paddleboarding camp on June 20-24.

Called Wahine Toa Week, it is named after a Polynesian phrase that roughly translates to “fierce ocean woman warrior.”  The camp is designed to inspire women empowerment and nudge participants out of their comfort zones.  Campers will have the opportunity to not only build friendships but enhance their confidence with a variety of paddle-based and life-skills activities.

Campers will learn strokes and techniques.  Rain or shine, they will launch on SUPs for day trips to explore different areas around the island.  Campers will learn how to navigate, read the water, anticipate changes in tides and winds, and trip planning.  Skills will be put to the test on a scavenger hunt through Sanibel’s east end canals.  At the end of the week, campers will paddle six miles from the Sanibel Causeway to Fort Myers Beach after spending the night on an uninhabited island.

For more information or to register, visit sanibelseaschool.org.  Part of the SCCF family, the Sanibel Sea School’s mission is to improve the ocean’s future, one person at a time.
