History Repeats Itself

From one pandemic to another …

About 40 islanders recently took part in the restaging of a historical photo as the Captiva Island Historical Society hosted “History Repeats Itself.”

The “then and now” photo was taken in the same location as a photo taken during a community gathering in front of the Captiva Chapel by the Sea in 1918, the year of the Spanish Flu pandemic.

The modern photo shows people wearing masks and socially distanced, as evidence of the environment in 2020 on the island.

The photo will be added to the historical society’s collection along with the original photo, which is displayed in a frame inside the chapel.
