Scavenger Hunt Time!

Know when the Sanibel lighthouse was built or when Bailey’s General Store first opened its doors?

If so, definitely plan to be part of this year’s Sanibel Sea School’s Flip Flop Family Scavenger Hunt. The family-friendly, all-ages event will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. All proceeds will support the nonprofit’s scholarship fund, which makes it possible for children and families in need to have meaningful ocean experiences.

“Before the scavenger hunt begins, teams will be given a book of clues and challenges, each worth a set amount of points,” said event coordinator Chrissy Basturk. “Some will test your knowledge of our islands and the ocean, and others will require you to take funny pictures or find specific items to bring back with you,” she added. One lucky participant will win a white diamond and yellow sapphire sea star pendant valued at $1,895, donated by Lily & Co. Jewelers.

“We can’t wait for the next Flip Flop Family Scavenger Hunt,” said Jodi Rienzo, who participated with her family last year. “It stood out as one of the most fun days we had in 2018. An incredible bonding experience for families and friends.”

Cara Summit, recalling her family’s experience, said “Our kids are still talking about the great time they had exploring the island during last year’s scavenger hunt. From delivering doughnuts and taking a photo with our local fireman, to a group swim in the surf, we discovered places and met families that were new to us even though we’ve lived on the island for over 10 years. We came away with stories, island trivia, and good laughs that we will never forget. We are so excited to see what this year’s event has in store!”

Tickets are $25 per person, and teams of up to 8 people can register together. To learn more and reserve your spot, visit sanibelseaschool.org/flipflopfundraiser or call (239) 472-8585.
