Together, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) and Captiva Cruises have hosted hundreds of children though the years with their “No Child Left On Shore” initiative.
Founded in 2010 by Captiva Cruises former owner Paul McCarthy and SCCF educator Richard Finkel, the educational outreach program provides the younger generation of Southwest Florida with an informative and fun way to gain experiential knowledge of our region’s marine ecology.
Many of the recent participants pictured above had never been on a boat before the field trip, officials reported.
Departing McCarthy’s Marina aboard Captiva Cruises’ motor catamaran, the children were thrilled to observe dolphins while cruising the waters of the Pine Island Sound on the way to Cayo Costa State Park. The kids then had the opportunity to get their feet wet, explore the shoreline and discover the diversity of marine life on the island, all while SCCF naturalists helped teach them an appreciation of our natural world.
As Jacques Cousteau once said, “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever!”
