Peace Out!

The 12th annual Southwest Florida Peace Day celebration returns to the Alliance for the Arts tomorrow, September 22. The festival is held in conjunction with the International Day of Peace, a day celebrated worldwide each year today.

Peace Day will feature crafts, workshops, activities for kids of all ages, yoga and meditations, sing-alongs, education, key-note speakers and more. In addition, there will be food trucks offering delicious vegetarian, vegan and omnivore meals, treats and beverages.

According to festival organizers at the Alliance of the Arts and their partners at SWFL 4 Peace, “This year’s theme is Unity in CommUnity…Bridging the Gaps Between Us.  The theme builds upon what unites us, rather than focusing on what divides us, forging understanding and compassion and creating a peace-full world.”

This family-friendly, pet-friendly free event will feature live music, entertainers and dance groups all day on three stages. Local nonprofit organizations will be on hand with volunteer opportunities and information on how to get involved. Community leaders, spiritual leaders and the community can take part in a Peace Talks circle, dedicated to bridging the gaps and creating peaceful change in the community.

A mobile mural with the 12th annual Peace Day theme will be moving around the grounds all day, ready for you to add your fingerprint. There will also be a 3D sidewalk chalk art exhibition with public participation.

The event is plastic-free this year, in support of worldwide efforts to reduce and eliminate the staggering overload of plastic in landfills and waterways. Visitors are encouraged to bring reusable cups and carpool to lessen the carbon footprint.

The SW FL Peace Day festival is scheduled from 10 am – 6 pm at the Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd. in Fort Myers.  Alliance for the Arts will be open to provide a space to cool off and explore the art galleries inside.  For more information, call 239-939-2787 or visit artinlee.org.
