Thanks to our friends at the “Santiva Chronicle” for the following excerpt:
Music is in the air as the BIG ARTS Community Chorus gears up for their spring concerts March 14 – 15 at BIG ARTS Schein Hall.
Made up of local members of the Southwest Florida community, the chorus will be performing a diverse line up of classic mainstays and contemporary favorites.
For Charlene Gulbrandsen, the BIG ARTS Community Chorus offers her a place to continue to make music. “As a non-audition chorus, the BIG ARTS Community Chorus is fast becoming a most musically dedicated group of performers,” she said. “Whether it be dancing, acting, narrating, composing, directing, instrumental, or singing.”
Gulbrandsen is a former church choir director who moved to Sanibel in 2013. For many like Gulbrandsen, the chorus has become like an extended family. “Each season I am saddened when our spring (final concert) concludes as I look forward to fall and reuniting,” she said.
For other members, like 12-year chorus veterans John and Judy Pryor, the BIG ARTS Community Chorus offers a way to share their passion of music. When asked about what the chorus means to them they responded, “Everything.”
“There are lots of talented singers and really interesting people who love to sing,” the Pryors said. “There is a joy in singing with this group. One of our songs this year is ‘How Can I Keep from Singing’ – that’s how we all feel.”
Tickets to the BIG ARTS Community Chorus Spring Concert are $12 for adults and free for students and children. Tickets can be purchased at the BIG ARTS box office, by phone at 239-395-0900 and online at www.BIGARTS.org.
