A Yule Mule

Did you know that when Santa delivered surprises to children on Sanibel in the past, he probably used a mule to help him?

According to our friends at the Sanibel Historical Village, mules were able to survive mosquitoes better than other work animals.  So, wanting to keep Rudolph and the other reindeer safe, Santa probably used a local mule – a “Yule Mule” – while spending Christmas Eve on Sanibel.

You’re invited to come visit the Historical Village’s “Yule Mule” and write a letter to Santa at the same time.  There is a letter-writing station set up with a special Air Mail to the North Pole mailbox.  (For letters written by December 15, Santa will write back wishing you holiday cheer!)

The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village, located at 950 Dunlop Road, is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  In accordance with the city of Sanibel’s regulations, masks are required inside the buildings.  Due to COVID-19, fully guided tours are available only if reserved in advance for groups of no more than six, depending on docent availability.  For more information, call 239-472-4648.
