Come Meet Tim Dorsey

Tim Dorsey - author

Calling all Tim Dorsey fans! The author, who has gained a tremendous following with zany satires about life in Florida, is out with his 20th book, “Clownfish Blues.” His newest release once again features his character Serge, who Dorsey explains as charming, nuts and hyper about visiting places all over Florida with his dim-witted side-kick.

He will be stopping by Sanibel for a book signing on Monday, Feb.13 from 1 to 2 pm at MacIntosh Books, located at 2300 Palm Ridge Road.

Although the author was born in Indiana, his family moved to Florida when he was a year old. Dorsey grew up in Riviera Beach, an hour north of Miami. After graduating from Auburn University, he was a police and courts reporter for the Alabama Journal and then joined the staff at the Tampa Tribune. He continued to work at a newspaper until his first book, “Florida Roadkill” debuted in 1999.

“There were a lot of crazy news stories that I covered as a reporter, or read as an editor,” Dorsey said. “It’s the best state to be a novelist. If you are going to set your book in your home state, you never run out of material.”

Dorsey does almost 104 events a year promoting his books.

“One of the fascinating things about my books . . . all of these people are getting tattoos from my book,” he said of people having various images from his book covers.
