Rebuilding the Causeway

Photo from Sanibel-Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce

Although the Sanibel Causeway was re-opened to emergency workers only 15 days after Hurricane Ian hit last fall, that was just the beginning of a long road ahead (forgive the pun) for those who love our island.

Work on the three-mile-long bridge hasn’t stopped since. Temporary repairs should be completed by next month (the start of this year’s hurricane season) and then permanent repairs will begin.

The goal is to return the Causeway to its pre-storm condition to the maximum extent possible, reconstructed with a more resilient design based on “lessons learned” from Hurricane Ian.

Andy had the pleasure of attending a recent Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club meeting where the Causeway project was discussed in detail. He was very impressed with the presentation and wanted to share it. Please click here to view.

Our friends at NBC-2 also aired a great segment on the rebuilding efforts. Click here to play the video for yourself!
