After his more than 20 years of leadership at Ocean's Reach, we are ever-so-reluctantly saying a fond farewell to Andy Boyle upon his retirement.
Staff, owners and friends held a surprise retirement party for Andy this week at The Sanibel Community House. It was a wonderful evening, full of warm memories and camaraderie, along with a few special gifts.
Not only was Andy presented with a new putter and golf balls for his next visit to the links, but John Warren, president of our board of directors, announced that the resort's outdoor dining area, formerly known as "The Grove," will be rechristened "Andy's Grove" in honor of -- among many things -- the amazing landscaping talents he shared with us to make Ocean's Reach one of the most beautiful spots on Sanibel Island.
It was a bittersweet evening, as we will all miss him tremendously, but it was so heartwarming to observe everyone's appreciation for all Andy has done for Ocean's Reach through the years. In a rather ironic twist, his tenure was bookended by the two major hurricanes that disrupted life on Sanibel. Andy started full time once the resort reopened after Hurricane Charley in 2004, and he is leaving after supervising the rebuild of the resort following Hurricane Ian in 2022. Thanks in large part to his efforts, Ocean's Reach is now open and showcasing entirely new condominium units and amenities.
