Last week, five months to the day after Hurricane Ian nearly toppled the world-famous Sanibel Lighthouse, residents gathered at 6 a.m. to see our beloved beacon shine once again.
After 154 days, the heartbeat of Sanibel has been restored.
Sanibel Mayor Holly Smith called the relit lighthouse a “beacon of hope” and a symbol of our community’s resilience.
“It’s our next chapter. It is our chapter of hope,” Holly said.
