“Ding” Darling Day 2020

 

In concert with the 75th Anniversary Celebration of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge and in keeping with CDC protocols, the refuge staff has scaled back activities for this year’s “Ding” Darling Day — scheduled for December 1st — to present a relaxed engaging day outdoors interacting with nature.

Turtle Tally

 

The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation reported that the 2020 sea turtle nesting season on Sanibel and Captiva ended on Oct. 31 with some truly remarkable results:

  • 937 nests
  • 78,137 eggs laid
  • 33,784 hatchlings emerged
  • 364 turtle encounters
  • 188 unique individuals
  • 139 turtles newly tagged

The Island Store Re-Opens

 

Following a year’s worth of renovations, The Island Store on Captiva is once again open to shoppers!

The grocery and delicatessen shop offers wine, beer, produce, meats, essentials, medicines, souvenirs, drinks, cheeses, grab-and-go breakfast and sandwiches.  The staff is working on adding hot deli products soon.

The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge has launched “Nature Store2” off-campus at 2250 Periwinkle Way in Sanibel Square.

One Crazy Storm
