Thanks to the support of donors and a dynamic partnership with the City of Sanibel, Community Housing & Resources provides affordable, below market rate rental homes for many individuals in our community.
CHR was formed in 1979, as the first of its kind in the state of Florida, offering both affordable rental and ownership opportunities to low-income families who work full time on Sanibel or are retired or disabled island residents.
Today, CHR maintains 74 rental units in eleven locations on Sanibel. One 12-unit complex (Casa Mariposa) is designated just for seniors. CHR also manages 14 home ownership opportunities with limited-equity on Sanibel. More than 150 residents are provided affordable housing each year through the program, allowing those who serve guests on Sanibel to live here and truly be a part of our island community.
Our very own Andy is on CHR’s Landlord/Tenant Committee and was happy to join the rest of the program’s supporters when the City of Sanibel recognized “forty years of dedication and excellence” at CHR’s 40th Anniversary last week.
