It’s always fun when our guests find one of the colorfully-painted shells left in inconspicuous places around the island by the Sanibel Shells group.
In this case, it’s one of our very favorite guests ever — Penny M. from Jupiter, FL — who, along with her best friend, Fay F., have been visiting us several times each year for the past 15 years. The ladies have both become much beloved and truly treasured members of the Ocean’s Reach family!
As an FYI, the Sanibel Shells Facebook group — now just shy of 16,000 members strong! — states that their goal is to “share happiness and love for shells and Sanibel through the simple gesture of painting shells and then hiding them on Sanibel and Captiva for others to find. We hope to inspire a sense of community among lovers of these special islands and to inspire creativity in all ages (from toddlers to centenarians).”

Why does the Sanibel Shells Facebook group not offer another way to communicate? I feel comfortable with giving my email address . I don’t feel comfortable put personal information on the internet. And I don’t do Facebook. I would think that there are others who would love to join the Sanibel Shells group. I ♥️ Sanibel and have been coming years! Even my license plates have Sanibel on it!!
