Over the Moon

 

Stargazers are over the moon excited as this month’s full moon will line up with a partial lunar eclipse early Friday morning.

Why the cause for celebration?  This particular event will be the longest partial lunar eclipse of the century.  The moon will slip into Earth’s shadow for 3 hours and 28 minutes — the longest in 100 years, according to NASA.

An IPPY for Ikki

 

For nearly 40 years, Ikki Matsumoto’s iconic artwork was inspired by the abundant natural wonders of Sanibel and Captiva.

Look what longtime guest Misty S. from Kipling, OH found on her recent visit to Ocean’s Reach:  A prized Junonia!

One of the reasons that the Junonia is considered the rarest shell to find on Sanibel is the fact that Junonia sea snails live miles offshore — on the bottom of the ocean in waters up to 120 feet deep — so it’s very rare for waves to roll them all the way to the beach without being damaged.  » Read more
