After two years of a virtual-only race, the 14th annual 10K Race 4 FISH returns October 22, 2022 to benefit the great support programs over at FISH of SANCAP.
FISH (“Friends In Service Here”) has been assisting islanders since 1982 as a “neighbors helping neighbors” organization. It started as a group of volunteer residents and has grown to rely on more than 150 volunteers, as well as a small professional staff, to assist nearly 5,000 islanders each year.
Last year, FISH distributed more than 5,000 meals to home-bound seniors; 4,294 food backpacks to children; more than 255,000 pounds of food which equated to 213,316 meals; and paid 847 rents, medical and utility bills for those in crisis. The organization is proud to have provided 1,064 doses of the COVID vaccine in 2021 at a pop-up clinic.
This year’s Race 4 FISH will be a hybrid virtual and in-person event. Runners can choose to participate in the Virtual 10K race at any time, or run in person on October 22, with the start/stop point at the Sanibel Community House. There will also be a 150-yard “Kids Run” on October 22, as well.
