Plug Into the Sun!

“The sun — that power plant in the sky — bathes Earth in ample energy
to fulfill all the world’s power needs many times over.
It doesn’t give off carbon dioxide emissions.  It won’t run out.  And it’s free.”
— Susannah Locke

The J.N. “Ding” Darling Wildlife Refuge recently installed a new interpretative sign featuring information about its solar power initiative.  Guests can now learn how the Refuge has dramatically lightened its carbon footprint (and power costs) by switching to solar power, and how everyone can do the same.

In the year 2020, Ding Darling’s solar system at their Visitor & Education Center produced 86.3 MWh of power.  That amount of solar power equates to the ability to run a refrigerator continuously for more than 53 years.  It’s also the carbon offset equivalent of saving 1,562 trees!
