Cute as a Bug!

1979 Volkswagen Beetle 1

1979 Volkswagen Beetle 2

It’s not everyday that one of our guests gets to climb into the driver’s seat of an “Only-on-Sanibel” signature vehicle.

The proud new owner of this colorful 1979 Volkswagen Beetle came by to show us her new “baby” and graciously offered these ladies from Switzerland a unique photo opportunity.

It’s an icon of the Age of Aquarius and the marvel of many pre-and post-Aquarians—the love bug!  » Read more

Explore our Grove

bird houses in Grove

Take a walk around our Grove and discover nature’s finest. Among the tropical plantings, gardens and pond, wildlife abounds. Recent sightings include the beautiful red-bellied woodpecker foraging on our olive trees and making a nest for her young family inside one of our bird houses. The bird houses are popular pieces of real estate at Ocean’s Reach as we’ve counted three families that have been raised in one house alone.  » Read more

Lovin’ It!

Lover's Key

Lover’s Key is just a hop, skip and a jump — and a handful of beautifully scenic bridges — away from Ocean’s Reach. Thanks to our friends at “Coaste” for this great article!

To the uninitiated, it might seem out of place, the 4.9-mile stretch of prime, undeveloped Southwest Florida beachfront sandwiched between the last of the towering condos of Fort Myers Beach to the first of a parade of million-dollar homes that line the shores of Little Hickory Island.  » Read more

Mermaid Smiles

Mermaid by Don Payne

Our friend Don is at it again! But who can blame him with such beautiful inspiration?
Don’s 12-year-old granddaughter, Claire, was his muse for this whimsical little poem:

Mermaid Smiles

Beautiful smiles are a wonderful thing

But what would a mermaid’s smile bring

Up from the pool, tail splashing around

     Wonderful sight, but questions abound

The Sound of Birds

Don Tremblay

Sanibel is a popular winter sanctuary for our “snowbird” guests and over 200 varieties of beautiful birds migrating from the north. Avian splendor emanates from the island skies.

Don Tremblay, our loyal winter guest of 25 years, says there are
many things about Ocean’s Reach and Sanibel that he loves. But one thing in particular that he enjoys
is listening to the sound of birds–the chirping and singing heard
throughout the day and throughout the island–even while playing his
favorite sport at his favorite course with his favorite Ocean’s Reach
General Manager.  » Read more

Double Treasure

Two perfect shells

And double the pleasure for our guest who discovered not one, but two giant treasures of the sea — the horse conch. This shell is also Florida’s official state shell!

Mollusks have the ability to secrete a carbonate of lime solution that forms a hard, protective shell around them. Native to the waters around Florida, the horse conch can grow to a length of 24 inches. The word “conch”  » Read more

Are You a Mango Lover?

Mango blossoms

The mango blossoms are busting out all over keeping honey bees busy and
mango lovers happy! The vibrant blooms signal a summer feeding frenzy for
mango salsas, preserves and smoothies–or just “off the branch” fresh!

These beautiful trees provide great shade and some of the tastiest and most
popular fruit from the tropics. Andy, should know. It’s his tree!
